A HISTORY OF THE COLLABORATIVE ARTS ACADEMY

After providing Chester with award winning dance instruction for over 1 years, President and Owner M’Lanie Hunter is returning to her roots in theatre to offer an additional theatre education program for young and upcoming performers. This new venture provides not only offer an AMAZING opportunity to children and teens in the Orange County area but also introduces them to industry professionals that M’Lanie has worked with.

The first production introduced our students to one of Broadway’s finest...Michelle Pruiett, who portrayed The Little Mermaid on Broadway, as the Director in the production of The Little Mermaid, Jr.  M’Lanie Hunter was the Choreographer for the production. Our second production, also directed by Michelle, was "Into the Woods."

“Having a successful dance program for all these years, I feel we have set up a quality program that touches on my personal passion and affiliations with musical theatre and drama.  We will be offering a fantastic Collaborative Arts Academy that will grow and enhance our “dance family” and award winning dance programs.”  -- M'Lanie Hunter

With the closing of the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center, the loss of theatre locally has been sadly felt.  M’Lanie Hunter herself performed in every professional production at Sugar Loaf, including Rent with Lexi Lawson from Broadway’s Hamilton.  M’Lanie holds a BFA degree in Drama from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and performed with Pruiett in Godspell.  Pruiett’s bio is astounding and the fact that children in the Hudson Valley will be subjected to her talents and experience will be rewarding.  Besides starring as Ariel on Broadway, Pruiett also toured with Broadway’s Jersey Boys, Sweet Charity and Beauty and the Beast, just to name a few.  She has taught master classes with Broadway Classroom, Broadway Connection and many performing arts schools and programs throughout the country.
